Posaune, Baritonsaxophon, Schlagzeug – in dieser ungewöhnlichen Instrumentierung spielen drei Berliner MusikerInnen mit der Idee einer Miniatur-Brass-Band. Durch die tiefen Instrumente entsteht ein voluminöser Klang, durch die kleine Besetzung Klarheit und Offenheit.
Im Frühjahr 2017 erhielt die Band ein Arbeitsstipendium des Berliner Senats. In der intensiven Probenarbeit haben die MusikerInnen einen gemeinsamen Sound und neue Arrangements für das von Lucks und Schlichting komponierte Repertoire entwickelt. Die Stücke der Insomnia Brass Band sind formal einfach und benutzen collagenhafte Versatzstücken verschiedener jazzverwandter Genres. Improvisatorische Überraschungen und Risikofreudigkeit sind dabei für das Spielkonzept der Band essentiell.
Die Inspiration zu den Kompositionen für die Insomnia Brass Band gewinnt Almut Schlichting aus Basslinien und Grooves von Bands wie The Meters und Red Hot Chili Peppers. Anke Lucks formt ihre Stücke parallel zu Texten in der literarischen Tradition des „stream of consciousness“, die durch ihren Rhythmus den Melodieverlauf beeinflussen. Die beiden Musikerinnen kombinieren dabei die Erfahrungen, die sie in den groovenden Bläsersections von Bands wie Le Sorelle Blu, Rotfront und ?Shmaltz! gesammelt haben, mit der offenen Spielhaltung ihres Jazz-Backgrounds.
Mit seinem durchsichtigen und unkonventionellen Schlagzeugspiel fügt Hampus Melin diesen Kompositionen eine neue Dimension hinzu. Der schwedische Schlagzeuger ist aus verschiedenen musikalischen Kontexten bekannt. Er spielt momentan in mehreren Klezmerbands (z.B. Daniel Kahn and The Painted Bird) in Jazzensembles um die Pianistin Fee Stracke und bei Inszenierungen des Gorki Theaters.

SPEMA is a free-improv surprise-music group from germanys' Ruhr- and Saar-area using sounds, gestures and extras in terms of un-control, focus-focus and plural-talks. The instruments in use are ranging from found objects, home-made windinstruments, costum-build cymbals and percussion to prepared trombone and doublebass next to huffy voices, in-situ scrap, and excentric lo-fi tools. The musical game develops from overall surprises, analogue soundtransports and inordinate communication, mostly respecting the atmospheric dust of place and time while involving the everything. Zur Einstimmung auf die Weihnachtszeit präsentiert das Berliner Ensemble Fünfklang ein weihnachtliches A-cappella-Programm mit Musik von der Renaissance bis zur heutigen Zeit. Es erklingen Werke u. a. von Eccard, Hammerschmidt, Victoria, Mendelssohn und Wolters.

Fünfklang ist ein Ensemble junger Menschen, die der Wunsch verbindet, gemeinsam zu musizieren und sich vor allem der Alten Musik zu widmen. Während des Studiums und der Tätigkeit in verschiedenen Berliner Chören, entstand die Idee sich zusammenzuschließen. Seit kurzem tritt das Ensemble im Raum Berlin auf.

Periphery is a modern jazz project based on compositions of the spanish guitarist Antonio Bravo, with an interesting mix of stylistic influences ranging from classic jazz, European free improvisation and folk music from Galicia, in the northeast of Spain. All linked by the thread of improvisation, interaction and search for a language where each of the three musicians state their own voice . Based in Berlin, the trio has a significant presence in the jazz scene of the city.

This young formation (Paul Engelmann - reeds, Benjamin Lehmann - doublebass, Martial Frenzel - drums) is trying at a jazz sound that combines tradition with modernity. Inspired by Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry, Gato Barbieri… the three musicians aim to create a free jazz sound that particularly frees itself from diatonic chord conjunctions and still swings. Suite-like, one theme leads over to the next in a complex pattern structure so the usual scheme “one tune after the other” blurs and the concerts acquire a meditative-contemplative character. Improvisation as free as it could be is the centre of the program, and the three young composers - failing or succeeding - love to lean out far of the window.

Bubu is an attempt to get the old Free Jazz School back to blossoming. Since this music is only expressed through abstractness, individuality and noisiness most of the time, the three musicians are aiming at a kind of their own - to deal with the subject collectively.

DANCER VASE is a series of kinetic and performative sound objects made out of porcelain by finnish designer and artist Markus Koistinen.
Walter Sallinen is a composer and sound artist who weaves across, through and between different fields of music. He joins occasionally forces with artists from other art domains for adventurous sonic and visual explorations.
"The series consists of experiments based on one mother form inspired by human body. With the experiments I wanted to question how objects relate to our physical properties and how could a vase be made into a musical instrument - from a static container to a dynamic, performative object."
